Building a Vision: Progress on the SriKiran-Shah Family Pediatric Eye Care Centre
The construction of the SriKiran-Shah Family Pediatric Eye Care Centre in Kakinada, a collaborative effort between the Shah Family Foundation and the Manjari Sankurathri Memorial Foundation (MSMF), is well underway. This dedicated facility aims to transform pediatric eye care for a catchment area of over 10 million people, with a focus on early intervention, diagnosis, and treatment of eye conditions in children.
After overcoming initial logistical challenges, construction began with a ceremonial “Bhumi Pooja” on March 30, 2024, marking the official start of the project. The subsequent months involved finalizing construction plans, securing civic approvals, and assembling a dedicated team of engineers and workers.
By June 26, 2024, excavation began, and the construction of the basement was in full swing. Despite delays caused by monsoon rains, the team’s resilience ensured that the foundation work was completed successfully. The construction has since reached a major milestone with the completion of the building’s concrete floor top—a process achieved in just one day through the coordinated efforts of a dedicated workforce.
With a commitment of just over CAD $383,000 over two years, the Shah Family Foundation is proud to support the creation of this state-of-the-art facility, set to open in 2025. The next phases of construction are expected to progress rapidly, bringing this vision closer to reality.
Once completed, the SriKiran-Shah Family Pediatric Eye Care Centre will be a vital resource for children in the region, providing them with access to essential care and a brighter future.
