The Manjari Sankurathri Memorial Foundation was established out of a tragedy that resonated across nations, turning sorrow into action. Since 1989, the foundation has been transforming the lives of the needy in Andhra Pradesh through education, healthcare, and disaster relief initiatives. In memory of the lives lost on Air India Flight 182, the foundation's enduring mission has been to enhance the quality of life for the poor with comprehensive value-based programs. Its eye care initiatives, led by the Srikiran Institute of Ophthalmology, have brought sight and hope to millions, while its educational and disaster relief efforts have nurtured resilient communities poised for growth and self-sufficiency.
Blueprint for Healing: Sri Kiran-Shah Family Pediatric Eye Care Centre
The Shah Family Foundation, aligning with this noble cause, has committed CAD $383,100over two years to fund the construction and operational launch of a dedicated pediatric ophthalmology center, to be known as the "Sri Kiran-Shah Family Pediatric Eye Care Centre." Located within the Srikiran Institute of Ophthalmology in Kakinada, the center will serve as a beacon of specialized child eye care for a catchment area with a population of 10 million. The grant will build not just walls and rooms but futures filled with brighter possibilities, providing diagnostic screenings, surgeries, and treatments tailored for the young eyes of those who are most in need.
Anticipated Impact at Completion
Upon its completion, the Sri Kiran-Shah Family Pediatric Eye Care Centre is projected to be an unprecedented facility in the region, with the capacity to screen approximately 100,000 children annually. Through early identification and treatment, the center anticipates preventing blindness in countless children and restoring the gift of sight to many who already face vision challenges. This initiative is expected to fortify the health of a generation, arming them with the visual tools necessary for education and everyday life. With planned expansions including operation theatres and additional care facilities, the center will stand as a testament to the power of focused philanthropy and its ability to evoke lasting change within communities.
