Clean Water, Brighter Futures: Supporting Lifewater Canada’s Impact in Nigeria
Access to clean, safe water is a basic human right—and yet, for many communities around the world, it remains out of reach. That’s why the Shah Family Foundation is proud to support Lifewater Canada with a one-time donation of $22,500, funding a project that brings both clean water and health education to schools in Nigeria.
This grant will support the drilling of four new wells on school grounds, providing safe drinking water for over 1,200 students, their families, and surrounding community members. Each site will also host a health and hygiene workshop and distribute reusable menstrual hygiene kits to schoolgirls — addressing both sanitation challenges and the issue of period poverty, which often causes girls to miss school.
The impact of these interventions is profound. Lifewater Canada’s data shows that projects like these significantly reduce the spread of waterborne illnesses and cut down household health costs. In communities where wells are installed, women and girls save an average of 94minutes per day previously spent fetching water. For school-aged girls, the distribution of menstrual kits contributes to a 74% reduction in absenteeism, 55% improvement in test scores, and an 80% drop in teen pregnancies.
This project directly aligns with the Shah Family Foundation’s 2025 priority of Clean Water & Accessibility, reflecting our commitment to creating long-term, sustainable change in health, education, and opportunity.
We are honoured to partner with Lifewater Canada to help students thrive in school, improve their health, and stay safe.
