“It’s an honour to establish the Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children in partnership with Trillium Health Partners. Trillium has played a key role in providing essential healthcare services in Mississauga and the surrounding area, a community that includes my family and staff. We are profoundly grateful for the opportunity to give back to this community, which has embraced us as first-generation immigrants from India and has been home to Baylis Medical for several decades. We believe that enhancing healthcare is a shared responsibility that benefits everyone, and we hope this gift inspires others to contribute in their own way.”
– Kris Shah, President, Shah Family Foundation
The Shah Family Foundation in partnership with Trillium Health Partners is honoured to help build Ontario’s first women’s and children’s hospital. To recognize this generous donation, the new hospital will be named the Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children.
As one of the largest hospitals in the country, Trillium Health Partners delivers exceptional health care to over 2.2 million residents in Mississauga and the West GTA. By 2041, this population is expected to soar to 3.2 million, with a 39 percent increase in those under 18. No hospital will face more demand for its services in Ontario over the next 20 years than Trillium Health Partners.
Trillium Health Partners delivers over 8,000 babies annually – more than any other hospital in Canada. Building for the future so that we can deliver accessible, reliable, expert care for women and children for generations to come is paramount in ensuring the overall health of our community.
This is why Trillium Health Partners, with the generous support of the Shah Family Foundation, is building a state-of-the-art 200,000 square foot specialty hospital, dedicated to leading-edge women’s and children’s care. The facility will be purpose-built with the needs of women, children and their families in mind, offering many highly specialized and integrated services, including 12 new dedicated mental health inpatient beds for children and youth and 48 NICU bassinets and additional beds. The patient experience will also be enhanced by offering mom and baby simultaneous inpatient care when needed. Additionally, services addressing issues like pelvic pain, endometriosis, early pregnancy complications and more will be provided. This will also allow more women and children access to care closer to home. The hospital will be bolstered by numerous health system partnerships that will profoundly impact the generational health of our community.
The Shah Family Foundation's forward-thinking philanthropic investment is paving the way for the expanded hospital space and services that our community desperately needs. The new hospital will accommodate additional expert staff and the cutting-edge technologies to ensure babies have the best start in life and women and children have access to the care they need throughout their lifetime.
